COMMUNITY SAFETY
The Civilian Patrol
In October of 1991, the Civilian Patrol was organized. The patrol consists of men and women from Richmond Hill. These individuals voluntarily donate their time, and with the use of their own vehicles, patrol the streets of Richmond Hill to ensure the safety of all that reside in the area. This Civilian Patrol began with 67 members and soon became the eyes and ears of the local 102nd Police Precinct. Since they began, there has been a 60% reduction in crime for this area. They have maintained their commitmen to this neighborhood and have won many commendations from the Mayor’s Office, local legislators, the Police Department and local businesses that they have saved from crimes in progress.
Graffiti Clean-up
Throughout the years, The Richmond Hill Block Association has kept a commitment to the beautification of our town. It is a crime to deface private property; graffiti gives people the perception that an area is unsafe. We have organized many Graffiti Clean-Up Days. With the help of the Police Department, local legislators, Borough Hall and the most important our volunteers. We have done our part in the reduction of the graffiti in our area. There is at least one graffiti clean-up day every spring.
QUALITY OF LIFE
Keeping with the tradition that the original members of the association began--to ensure that Richmond Hill gets the fair service from city agencies that it deserves--Quality of life has always been a top priority at the Richmond Hill Block Association. There are Outreach Workers in the office weekdays from 9-5 who will handle all of your quality of life concerns. They will refer these problems to the proper agencies. Some common complaints that are handled by the Outreach Workers are potholes, sink holes, clogged storm drains, downed fire hydrants, illegal construction, illegal conversions, garbage accumulation, street & traffic lights that are out and abandoned vehicles. The outreach workers have a multitude of community information available as well. Whatever the problem or need, call the Richmond Hill Block Association. We will do our best to provide the information that you are looking for.
