New York State Senator Serphin Maltese Visits the
One Stop Richmond Hill Community Center Summer Tech Camp 2006

New York State Senator Serphin Maltese came to visit Richmond Hill One Stop Community Center . He spoke to us about the New York State legislature (and even gave us booklets to learn more about it). The legislature is where New York State's laws are passed. We told him about our two week mini-camp technology program and the videoconferencing.   We also showed him the web pages we were designing.

Here are some photos of Senator Maltese's visit.

Senator Maltese told us about new laws. One of the new laws is to require people with pools to have a device in the pool to alert parents if a child accidentally falls in. If no one is supposed to be in the pool, then the device is turned on and if a child falls in by accident, the device will make a beeping sound like a car alarm.  That will alert an adult to rescue the child.

While the senator was visiting, Kennedy Space Center's Damon Talley dialed in to say hello and tell him about our upcoming NASA videoconference.  This was the day before the astronauts returned on the space shuttle (which was also the day we had a videoconference with NASA).

Next, Ryan Schaffer called in on the videoconference unit from The Lee Richardson Zoo in Kansas. He had a visit with Senator Maltese to describe to him our videoconferences about amphibeans, reptiles, and birds. We were pleased that our partners around the country checked in to explain how we use this new technology in our summer program. Thanks for visiting, Senator Maltese!
